In this project Love Welcomes partnered with The Edge to create a guitar strap using material salvaged from discarded life vests in Greek refugee camps.

Love Welcomes is a creative social enterprise that helps refugee women begin to stitch their lives back together. Their team of refugee women upcycle materials into beautiful, handmade home products that they sell all over the world.

Working alongside Alex Threadgill, we designed a guitar strap that could be easily handcrafted using material salvaged from discarded life jackets. The design involved repurposing strips from the reclaimed material to create a woven pattern that spells out “Love Welcomes” — the core message of the brand. We included The Edge’s name in morse code on the back and an embroidered section displaying each item’s unique serial number.

It was such an amazing experience working with the team at the Love Welcomes studio — teaching them how to make the guitar straps. They are a wonderful group of talented women, who have created beautiful, high-quality pieces, and to date have sold over 1200 units.
